Abstract	The intestinal lumen houses a diverse array of commensal bacteria referred to as the gut microbiota, which play a significant role in host health. Although much past work has focused on how the gut microbiota are remodeled or altered in disease, in this proposal we will focus on how the host is altered by the presence of gut microbiota. To accomplish this, we will utilize a murine model of type II diabetic kidney disease and will assay both how the gut microbiota alters diabetic renal disease in males and females, and, how the gut microbiota alters host gene expression in diabetic renal disease.
